Ni Hao! 3 day trip to Hong Kong - Macau

Updated: Aug 30, 2018

Nature Lovers, Luxury Travelers, Adventurous Kind, City Boons - This trip is for all! It is a great pit-stop for friends travelling from Europe or States to the Asian Countries.

Trip Duration: 3 days

Day 1: Hong Kong (evening)

Day 2: Macau

Day 3: Hong Kong

The first leg of the trip started at Hong Kong, the city of high-rises. Hong Kong has many hidden shopping allies and place for one of the best petite sized clothing I have seen so far [Nathan road]. You will find both branded/local clothing and accessories. If you end up shopping at the local stores, please do bargain.

Day 1:

We were travelling during Christmas, so our first stop was Avenue of the Stars to view the beautiful laser show over the skyline. Entire city gleamed with tiny lights, sparkles and beams of colors.

Organic Vegan Asian Food, Pure Veggie House

We decided to try vegetarian local asian food at Pure Veggie House . The organic, vegan preparations of several local dishes gave a unique experience.

Day 2:

Travelling with a casino lover, the next obvious destination was Macau. Macau is an autonomous territory and hence travelling to Macau will involve the following:

1) new currency

2) visa requirements

3) immigrations checks (All easily available in Hong Kong at the port while boarding the ferry to Macau)

From Hong Kong, the best mode of travelling to Macau are TurboJets (speed boats)

I would recommend one to buy tickets to the ferry at the port terminal, given there are many counters near the port where you will find immediate tickers for the next ferry at almost same or lesser price than available online. We took the ferry from HK (SHEUNG WAN) to MACAU (OUTER HARBOUR) since the ferries run every 15 mins both ways.

On a one day trip to Macau, the best way to roam around are the relaxing hop on-hop off shuttles from the Outer Harbor Port. These shuttles will cover all the major casinos and architectural standouts.

Not to Miss while in Macau –

Ruins of St Paul : One of the only remains of Macau’s old church. The structure is located at the top of a hill, which was once the largest church in Asia. The original name was Matar Dei.

Ruins of St Paul

The façade is divided into five levels, starting with a dove at the top that symbolizes the Holy Spirit. Other sculptured motifs include biblical images, Chinese characters, six Chinese lions, mythological representations, several nautical motifs and bronze statues. Beneath the dove is a statue of Jesus, and around it are stone carvings of the implements of the crucifixion (Source: Link)

Golden Peacock at Venetian: It is the first Indian restaurant awarded one Michelin star rating in Asia. Food and service are exceptional and not as common as you would expect at any other Indian Restaurant. Would highly recommend reserving a spot prior to visiting the same. We were lucky to find a table without reservations.

Grand Lisboa Casino

Architecture Marvels: Whether it be old churches, or modern casinos, the city of Macau will offer views of unique buildings throughout the city.

St. Dominic's Church

Day 3:

The last day in Hong Kong ended with a visit to the famous Victoria peak and Lantau Island.

Victoria Peak: The peak offers an amazing view of the Hong Kong city from an altitude of 1,811 ft. We on boarded a tram that takes to the top of the peak at the sightseeing point. We stumbled upon a lookout restaurant which offers excellent views of the city while we grabbed a meal – Bubba Gump

Lantau Island: I like visiting Buddhist monuments for the peace and calmness it offers. Our trip to Asia wouldn’t have been complete without visiting the Lantau island and the Ngong Ping Village. The cable ride to the village provides beautiful views of the island with a tall standing sculpture of Tian Tan Buddha.

This trip to Asia certainly felt short, as we found a lot more things to do on our way. But the journey and experiences we uncovered during the time are memorable.

"There is always little something a place offers and there is always something about every place that prepares to call me again"

What will I do on my next visit -

1. Macau Sky Tower Adventure Walk Macau - SkyWalk

2. Sunset Peak, HK
