Bienvenidos Paradise! - Cancun, Mexico

Updated: Jan 30, 2019

The beauty of Cancun is that there is something for everyone. If you’re someone that likes to relax by a pool and sip on drinks there is a strip full of resorts just for that, and if you’re someone that wants to take the plunge and go zip-lining or do any outdoor activities there’s something for you too!

X-Caret View

I was lucky enough to have the best of both worlds. The trip duration was 6 days. 3 days were spent relaxing at the Secrets Silversands Resorts and the other 3 days I was out and about with my husband!

Infinity Pool at Silversands Resorts

We stayed in an all-inclusive resort with many pool and outdoor activities all day and night and lots of food and drinks and food…Did I mention food? We had options to dine at over 8 restaurants! There were many different cuisines such as Mexican, Italian, French, American, Japanese etc.

Each restaurant was designed as fine-dining, certain places even had a dress code. There were over 5 bars and poolside service which was marvelous. Our absolute favorite restaurant was the Portofino (Italian Cuisine). The serving size was filling and the taste was eloquent. The best part was that there was adequate staff to ensure the guest are having fun.

When travelling to Cancun there are hundreds of different sites you could use to plan your trip for historical and exciting places. We used Mycancuntours.com which was extremely easy to use and had a detailed and fun-filled day planned for us.

All of the adventures we went on were included in the package from this site. You can customize your own package depending on what locations you want to visit. Transportation and all entry fees were included.

Our 1st adventure: Travelling to the historical Chichen Itza

Chichen Itza is known as one of the wonders of the world. It is magnificent and a must see. I recommend doing the walking guided tour at the location. The tour guides give you a very detailed and interesting history of the Mayan culture and explanation of how the Pyramid came about. This is also a great place to buy souvenirs. Once you leave the ground of the pyramid there are stalls set up by local vendors. They are willing to bargain so don’t walk out with anything full priced!

Our 2nd adventure: Jumping into Cenote Xcajum and visiting Valladolid

Jumping into a Cenote (lake) is one of the most popular things to do in Mexico. There are many cenotes all over and the one that we visited is Cenote Xcajum. To get to the cenote you have to walk down several meters, it is a walk up and down. It is fun but extremely cold!!!

Before you go inside the Cenote, you are required to take a quick shower. It takes a few minutes to settle in but once you are inside it feels great. They say if you jump into Cenote Xcajum, you will look younger by years: “A dip in this cenote rejuvenates your skin”.

At this cenote, there are towels, lockers, and vests for rent. Also a buffet-style restaurant that has all types of diet friendly food (i.e. vegetarian).

After this, we visited a town Valladolid to see Mexican culture, markets and the famous Valladolid church. We tried Churros from street vendors and it is necessary if you are visiting any local towns.

Our 3rd adventure: Visiting X-Caret

X-caret is an theme park that claims you can complete in a day but if you really want to see everything you need at least two! This park has underground rivers (Maya & Paradise Rivers), Beach, Cove, and Ponds. This place is very kid friendly but enjoyable for all ages.

X-Caret Beach

There are many animal related places to see such as the Coral Reef Aquarium, Sea Turtles, Manatee Lagoon, Bee Farm, Butterfly Pavilion, Ecological Tour, Puma and Jaguar Island and Monkey Island. There are many trails that I highly recommend walking through.

X-Caret Theme Park

They have an area for swim with the dolphins and another one where you can swim with sharks. The most memorable event of the theme park is the Xcaret at Night! Spectacular. This is a magnificent show that will not let you blink.

You must bring:

  1. Sunscreen

  2. Sunglasses/ Hat

  3. Travelling Medications

  4. 2-3 swimming suits

  5. Swim shoes

Hope you enjoyed my journey to Cancun! Hasta la próxima vez! (until next time!)
